CLOSE Michael Heselbarth
Executive Director

"Upon arriving at Park Springs for the interview process, I was amazed by the physical structure and layout of the community. I had never seen a community that was so beautiful and had so many services and amenities to offer. Park Springs truly is a first class resort."

Michael Heselbarth is the Executive Director at Park Springs. A licensed Administrator in Georgia and Indiana, he has been an employee of Life Care Services, LLC, the management company for Park Springs, since the summer of 2000. He came to Park Springs in May 2008 after serving in management at other leading senior living communities across the nation, including Terre Haute, Indiana; Marquette Manor, in Indianapolis, Indiana; The Blakehurst in Towson, Maryland and Keystone Oaks, in Franklin, Indiana.

"Even though Park Springs' services and amenities were unbelievable, the two things that pushed me over the edge were the friendly and open members, and the friendly employees," said Micheal. "The employees were truly involved and cared for each member as if they were that employee's grandparent. That was amazing."

"The best part of my job is interacting with our wonderful members and staff," continued Michael. "A job is something a person goes to that's usually quite boring and uneventful; most people go to their job, come home, get up the next day, and do it over again every day. My job is not really a job; as we say here at Park Springs, 'It's an adventure.' Being at Park Springs allows me to make a difference in so many people's lives, make new friends and have fun doing it."

Michael graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelors degree in Health Care Administration and a Masters in Business Administration.

Brian Thomas
Director of Operations Management
CLOSE Brian Thomas
Director of Operations Management

"It's my job to keep the vision in mind - the finished product and the quality expectations that go along with it - as we work through the minutiae of day-to-day construction. Keeping the team focused and productive is what I'm here for."

-Brian Thomas

As Vice President of Construction, Brian Thomas is the corporate liaison with contractors and subcontractors on Isakson Living communities. Currently, he oversees construction at Peachtree Hills Place, Isakson-Living's second residential community. The 23-plus acre campus will feature 274 residences including villas and single-family homes. The completed community will also provide a 61,000-square-foot clubhouse, a 15,000-square-foot fitness center with pools, and a health center for skilled nursing and memory care. The impressive project is located in Peachtree Hills, a popular area within Atlanta's legendary Buckhead neighborhood.

Demanding, high-visibility projects are nothing new for Brian, who joined Isakson Living following a number of years with the Atlanta office of Manhattan Construction Co. While there, he served as senior project manager on the New World of Coca-Cola, and on a 20-story luxury apartment building. Brian is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in civil engineering.

Brian's duties at Isakson Living include oversight of all construction-related scheduling, budget, and safety functions. He has been actively involved in selection of the project's general contractor and primary subcontractors.

Along with selecting and managing these vendors, Brian oversees internal design and construction teams. And he is intimately involved in the design upgrade program for the community.

"The Coca-Cola project provided me with excellent experience in building a high-profile project with extremely high quality expectations." He says that coming from a contractor background gives him valuable perspective and a firm understanding of budgets and scheduling so essential to success.

But it's the communication - among both internal and external parties - that Brian says matters most to the success of a project. His approach is to remain realistic about expectations, and open and honest with everyone involved. Maintaining the focus on clearly stated, shared objectives is his primary goal.

Achieving this involves maintaining open channels of communication with Isakson Living decision-makers and extends to ensuring that every member of the field team is on board. "It's really a matter of making sure everybody knows what's going on and has the appropriate information to execute the tasks," he adds.

Brian has received numerous awards for his work, including from the U.S. Green Building Council. He and his wife Marie are the parents of two young children.

Jim Schneeberger
Food & Beverage Director
CLOSE Jim Schneeberger
Food & Beverage Director

“I started in food service because of the different aspects this kind of work has to offer. No one day is the same as the one before. The people you meet and have the opportunity to provide services to are an education in and of themselves. Everyday brings something new to learn.”

Jim Schneeberger, Food and Beverage Director at Park Springs started working in the Hospitality Industry over 33 years ago as a busboy and dishwasher. “I started as a busboy at a Hotel just up the road from my parent’s home so I could walk or ride my bike to work. It was a great place to work and had so much to offer as a first job doing dishes when staff called out sick and training to be a waiter and learning table-side cooking. I was able to learn a wide variety of food service concepts while working there.”

Eleven years later, he accepted a management position in the Food Service Department in a CCRC in Florida. Jim went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Hodges University and worked at several other CCRCs in Florida before moving to Park Springs in 2008.

In the first year at Park Springs, Jim along with the Food Service Team has redesigned two dining venues and held a grand opening for an upscale Steak House called The Springhouse Grill. We continue to upgrade Food Service and work with the staff and Members of Park Springs to create the best Food Service Program possible.

“The best part of my job is making each day different and seeing how we can improve.” Says Jim “I have a saying posted in my office and it reads ‘I’m only as good as the next meal I serve. Can you help me?’ This depicts the type of job it is and how each and every meal is a unique challenge and meeting the needs of every Member is the greatest challenge, but also the greatest accomplishment.”

Lisa Kiely
Leisure Services Director
CLOSE Lisa Kiely
Leisure Services Director

"I have always gravitated toward older folks. When I was little I used to smile and wave at anyone who looked older and would say hello Grammy or Grampy. Then later, in my 20's my step grandmother went to a retirement community and when my step mother wasn't able to visit I would. One time, the aerobic instructor didn't show up so I taught the aerobic class. I kept going back and became the Activity Director and decided to get a minor in gerontology as a result."

Lisa Kiely is Leisure Services Director for Isakson Living's Park Springs, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Stone Mountain. Kiely has been with Park Springs for four years; in her current position there she oversees activities for over 650 members in independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care.

"Many people do not know about the scope of this position," says Lisa. "It entails many different responsibilities, including transportation, fitness center, Cobblestone Memory Care, skilled nursing and assisted living, as well as consulting for the management company."

"The best part of my job is seeing the members smile, watching them become at home here and working with the rest of the Leisure Services Team," adds Lisa. "I love my job."

Prior to joining Park Springs, Kiely was Activities Director for four years with Lake Forest Good Samaritan Village and Wellness Director with the YMCA for ten years. Kiely is a Community Life Services Resource Consultant for Life Care Services, one of the nation's leading senior community management companies. In addition, Kiely teaches exercise classes at the YMCA, trains instructors for the YMCA and hosts wellness clinics and seminars. A graduate of Texas Woman's University, Kiely is a Certified Activities Director, Certified Group Fitness Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer and has taught aerobics since the early 80's.

Maricitia Hughes
Director of Interiors
CLOSE Maricitia Hughes
Director of Interiors

"Moving into a beautiful new home is exciting, and it's also a significant responsibility. It's our job to assist members as much as they'd like. We want them to feel confident that their home will be beautiful, high-performing and a joy for years to come."

-Maricita Hughes

Director of Interiors Maricita Hughes has been an integral part of the Isakson Living organization since 1984 when she joined the firm to design commercial and office building interiors. She has also provided construction management services for Isakson Living retail centers.

Since the firm entered the senior residential industry, Maricita's experience and skills have been in high demand. At Park Springs, Isakson Living's first community in Stone Mountain, Maricita contributed significantly to the design of floor plans, working closely with members to create spaces that reflected their dreams and desires.

As construction continued and members began to move in, she developed and led the process of interior selections. The goal was to give members diverse, high-quality options in flooring, cabinetry, colors and overall layout.

Maricita was similarly involved at Peachtree Hills Place, the firm's second community in Atlanta's Buckhead district. Maricita led the team that designed the clubhouse and health center, and the sales and design centers, where members can see furnished homes and choose personalized options.

"I was particularly engaged in designing kitchens and bathrooms at Peachtree Hills Place. We learned a great deal from members that we used to create elegant, livable spaces," says Maricita. Among innovations she helped develop are bathrooms that combine resort-style size and luxury with extraordinary practicality and accommodation.

As the liaison between members and the Isakson Living construction team, Maricita and her colleagues begin working as long as a year before construction to help customize layouts and select options. "We help bring practicality to the process," she explains. "Many members who have lived in their homes for decades often anticipate recreating the same interiors in their new Isakson Living homes. We help them see what will work from the viewpoint of design and function." In a series of three meetings, members have the opportunity to select options and literally map out the interiors of their new homes.

An Atlanta native who lived abroad for many years, Maricita is a graduate of the Georgia Tech School of Architecture. Before joining Isakson Living in 1984, she worked with the Gary B. Coursey architecture firm. Maricita and Shawn Hughes are the parents of 10-year-old Chase.

“Interacting with members and prospects, I’ve learned that if you listen long enough and close enough, you’re sure to learn something significant.”

Vanessa McCall knew a lot about cheerful, on-time delivery before she joined the Park Springs staff in 2006.  Although she’s delivering service rather than packages as she did at FedEx, Vanessa believes 15 years with the package-delivery giant prepared her well.  After working as a courier, Vanessa moved into customer service, then was a FedEx training specialist.

“Any time you’re working with people, it’s a learning experience,” says Vanessa.”  Hers is often the first face a prospective member sees before meeting with a Residency Counselor.  She also makes sure visitors have the information and literature they need.  As well, Vanessa organizes special events.

Vanessa and Stan McCall are the proud parents of son Jamal and grandson Jaylen.  Vanessa enjoys reading and working out and is an active member of her church.
